Every day, someone near your shop types a version of the same search - "best salon near me," "AC repair near me," "sweet shop near me." Google doesn't show every shop in the area. It shows the ones it has information about.
If your only online presence is a Google Maps pin with a phone number, Google has very little to work with. No services listed, no area-specific content, no reason to rank you over the shop two streets away.
This isn't about being bigger or older. It's about being readable to Google - clear pages about what you do, where you do it, and who it's for. A shop with three years in business and a proper page beats a shop with fifteen years and no page, every time, in search results.
The fix isn't complicated: pages built around what people in your area are actually typing, with your services, your area name, and a way to contact you. That's the whole trick.
