The eight photos every Google Business Profile needs
Photos are the most-looked-at part of a Google listing and the most neglected. The typical Indian small business profile has three or four images: one blurry shopfront, one logo, and something a customer uploaded two years ago.
Meanwhile the customer deciding between you and two competitors is looking at exactly those images to work out whether you are any good.
Here are the eight that matter, in order of importance.
1. The shopfront, in daylight, showing the board
This is the photo that tells someone they have found the right place. Shoot it from across the road, straight on, in the morning or late afternoon. The name board must be readable.
If your entrance is inside a market or up a staircase, take a second shot showing the approach. A customer who cannot find you will call you annoyed, or leave.
2. The inside, from the doorway
One wide shot showing what a customer sees when they walk in. This is the trust photo. It answers "is this place clean, organised, the sort of place I want to be."
Tidy up first. Move the cartons. Turn all the lights on.
3. Your work, close up
The single most valuable photo type and the one almost nobody has enough of.
A finished haircut. A repaired phone. A plated dish. A fitted tile floor. A serviced car. A set of nails. Whatever you actually sell — photographed close, in good light, looking its best.
Not the room. The result. Customers are buying the result.
4. The same work, before and after
Where it applies, this outperforms every other photo you can take. Hair colour, dental work, car dents, home repairs, cleaning, tailoring. Two images side by side does more persuading than any amount of description.
Keep them honest and keep them consistent — same angle, same distance, same light.
5. Your team
People buy from people. A photo of you and your staff, looking at the camera, not stiff, makes a small business feel real in a way that no interior shot does.
For clinics, salons, coaching centres and anywhere the customer is trusting a person with something, this is close to essential.
6. Products or menu, laid out clearly
If you sell things, one clean flat-lay of your range on a plain surface. If you serve food, the actual dishes, not a photo of the printed menu card.
Never photograph a printed menu and upload it as a photo. It is unreadable on a phone, and it is what everyone does.
7. Something that shows scale or busyness
A full salon chair. A queue at the counter. A workshop with three cars in it. A class in session. Social proof works quietly — a place that other people use feels safer than an empty one.
Do not fake it. A staged photo reads as staged.
8. The details that answer objections
Think about what makes a customer hesitate, and photograph the answer.
Parking available? Photograph the parking. Wheelchair ramp? Photograph it. Air conditioned waiting room, sterilised instruments, UPI accepted, ladies-only timings, home delivery vehicle — each of these is a reason someone chooses you, and a photo says it faster than text.
How to actually take them
You do not need a camera. You need light and a steady hand.
- Shoot in daylight. Near a window, or outside in the shade. Indian tubelight makes everything green and flat.
- Clean the lens. Your phone lives in a pocket. This one thing improves half of all business photos.
- Hold still, tap to focus on the thing that matters, then shoot.
- Landscape for wide shots, portrait for tall things and single products.
- No filters, no borders, no text on the image. Google shows these small; anything added becomes clutter.
- Take ten, keep three. The first shot is rarely the good one.
Keep adding them
A profile that gets fresh photos every month performs better than one that was filled once. Set a small recurring habit: every Monday, three photos of last week's work.
If a customer uploads a bad photo of your business — badly lit, unflattering, taken years ago — you cannot delete it, but you can bury it by uploading enough good ones that it stops being what people see.
Every photo on your Google listing can appear on your website automatically. Apna.live builds it from the listing you already have.
